If you don’t travel to Tasmania with your own caravan or campervan, it can be tricky to find pet-friendly accommodation. There are only a small number of caravan parks that have cabins where pets are allowed, plus other cabins scattered throughout the countryside. To help you out, I’ve put together a list of some of the pet-friendly cabins around Tasmania…

Discovery Parks – Hobart, Hobart
One of the best pet-friendly places to stay around Hobart is Discovery Parks – Hobart. As well as being the closest caravan park to the centre of Hobart, pets are allowed in selected Economy Studio Cabins as well as on powered sites.
The Economy Studio Cabins that are pet-friendly can accommodate up to six – perfect for a family or just a couple. Cosy in size, each contains a double bed and two sets of bunks, as well as a bathroom and fully equipped kitchen.
Double check with the park for the full set of pet rules before making a booking. The park is Risdon is an ideal base for exploring southern Tasmania. There’s also plenty of facilities to keep children occupied onsite, from putt putt golf to a jumping pillow.
Arrow Brick House, Port Arthur
One of the top tourist destinations in Tasmania that is also dog-friendly is the Port Arthur Historic Site. To make the most of your visit, it’s best to stay locally, especially as tickets to the historic site are valid for two consecutive days.
A great pet-friendly cabin just a 5 minute drive away is the Arrow Brick House. This rustic two-bedroom cabin is located on 12 acres of rolling hills, with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
The well-stocked cabin has a fire place and fire pit to keep you warm during the cooler months, even an outdoor bath. Best of all dogs are welcome to join you, with the yard surrounding the house fully fenced. Enquire directly for the full list of pet rules.
Discovery Parks – Hadspen, Launceston
While the majority of caravan parks around Launceston permit pets to join you, only one of the parks has pet-friendly cabins: the Discovery Parks – Hadspen on the western side of the city.
Pet dogs are permitted in selected Economy Cabins at the park, as well as on their powered sites. Each of the pet-friendly Economy Cabins can accomodate up to four, with a double bed and a bunk bed. There’s also an ensuite and kitchenette, along with electric heating.
Double check when making a booking about whether there are any additional fees for pets. At the entrance of the caravan park is a convenient IGA supermarket and petrol station.
BIG4 St Helens Holiday Park, St Helens
St Helens is the largest town in northeastern Tasmania, and is also a popular holiday destination along the East Coast of Tasmania. An ideal base for your holiday with your dog is the BIG4 St Helens Holiday Park, which welcomes pets year round.
Pets are allowed on all sites at the park, from unpowered sites to their luxury ensuite sites. Pets are also welcome in their Family Plan Cabins. Choose between a four berth and six berth cabin, all with an ensuite, kitchenette and seating area. Pack a bed for your pup.
An additional cleaning fee of $25 applies when staying in these cabins with a pet. Additionally, pet dogs are also permitted on the balcony of other cabins – call to double check this still applies.
Swansea Holiday Park, Swansea
Another caravan park along Tasmania’s east coast with pet-friendly cabins is the Swansea Holiday Park. Swansea is located on the western shores of Great Oyster Bay, across the water from beautiful Freycinet National Park (which is off limits to pets).
All sites at this waterfront are pet-friendly, plus there are two pet-friendly cabin options. Choose between the One Bedroom Cabin or the Superior One Bedroom Cabin, both that sleep two. The latter has it’s own fenced yard! Both cabins come with a Puppy Pack, with soft furnishings covers for the bed and lounge, plus a dog towel for after beach excursions.
There are also plenty of other great perks for pets staying at the park, with a PugWash Pet Spa and a pet linen washing machine and dryer onsite. The local off-leash dog park is only 500m away and dogs are allowed on the local beach, either on-leash between 10am and 6pm from 1st December to 1st March, or under effective control the rest of the time.
Discovery Parks – Devonport, Devonport
If you’re travelling to or from Tasmania on the Spirit of Tasmania, you’ll likely stay in Devonport at the start or end of your stay in Tasmania. A convenient spot to stay is the Discovery Parks – Devonport, just a short drive from the ferry terminal.
Pets are welcome to stay with your on all their sites, as long as they’re kept on leash, plus in two of their Standard Cabins, located on the quieter side of the park. Make sure you book well in advance during peak periods!
The pet-friendly Standard Cabins each accomodate up to six, with a queen bed and two sets of bunks. There’s a well-appointed kitchen and bathroom, plus a reverse cycle heater and even an electric blanket on the main bed.
BIG4 Ulverstone Holiday Park, Ulverstone
Another alternative place to stay on the north coast of Tasmania is the seaside town of Ulverstone, just a short 15 minute drive west of Devonport. Pets are welcome to join you at the BIG4 Ulverstone Holiday Park.
Pets are allowed year round at the park, including on regular sites, the Buttons Creek campground sites and in selected Family Budget Cabins. Perks+ and VIPerks members even receive a treat for their dog!
The pet-friendly Family Budget Cabins can accommodate four, with a double bed and bunk beds, plus a kitchen and ensuite bathroom. It’s necessary to book pet-friendly cabins directly with the park due to their small number. A $25 cleaning fee is also charged if you’re staying with a pet on arrival.
Strahan Beach Tourist Park, Strahran
One of the most atmospheric places to visit in Tasmania is the town of Strahran on its West Coast. Pets are welcome to stay with you at the Strahan Beach Tourist Park with management approval.
All of the park’s powered and unpowered sites are pet-friendly, plus selected cabins have been designated as pet-friendly. I recommend calling up to enquire which cabins are pet-friendly and available for your planned dates. Alternatively, the park requests that you add a note to your booking.
The park is situated within walking distance of the centre of town, overlooking the stunning West Strahan Beach. Fire pits are available for hire along with firewood for purchase.
Craggy Peaks, Rossarden
Craggy Peaks is a bushland retreat situated in northeastern Tasmania in the Fingal Valley, close to the edge of Ben Lomond National Park. While the national park may be off-limits for pets, dogs are welcome to join you at selected cabins on the property, plus if camping.
Selected studio and two-bedroom cabins on the property are pet-friendly. Each of the cabins is self-contained, featuring a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning/heating, electric blankets, and their own private deck.
Up to two dogs are allowed per cabin. They must sleep inside at night, for the safety of the wildlife – make sure you bring their own bed or mat. Dogs need to be kept on a leash at all times and not chase the wildlife or disturb other guests.
